No secret to gamers pretty much everywhere, Sony at its press conference this morning announced that the Playstation codenamed ‘Neo’, will be the ‘PS4 Pro’.
Now, now, before the collective sigh of having to upgrade consoles far earlier than anticipated, let’s take a look at what Sony has to offer with the PS4 Pro.
Coming in at $399US (Probably around $550 for us Aussies), the PS4 Pro supports both 4K and HDR content. Lead systems architect for Playstation 4, Mark Cerny, has said that they have ‘more than doubled the power’ of the previous generation’s Playstation 4 GPU and significantly boosted the clock speeds of its CPU. Although they didn’t exactly specify why an update to the record breaking console was due, many suspect that it’s because of the upcoming Playstation VR system due to be released later this year.
Sony also noted that the PS4 Pro will be able to play all previous PS4 games, some of which will have enhanced detail through the processing power. Also, many of the new titles you’re looking forward to this year will be Playstation 4 Pro-first. Titles like Days Gone, Watch Dogs 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Final Fantasy XV, all the Call of Duty’s, Mass Effect Andromeda etc.
The PS4 Pro will be released on November 10, 2016. Just in time for the holidays.
Along side the release of the Pro model, Sony has also said that the regular PS4 will get its usual slimming down treatment, resulting in a ‘slimmer, lighter, more energy efficient’ version of itself. This will be priced at $299US (Around $400AUD) and will be released in most markets on September 15th, 2016.
