Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare Reveal

It has been 3 years since we’ve seen the last Infinity Ward-created Call of Duty game, Ghosts. Arguably one of their worst titles to date, Infinity Ward have a lot to prove now that it’s their turn to bat in Activision’s 3 yearly studio swap over.

After their live reveal a few hours ago, Infinity Ward have released a whole slew of details on their new game, and it looks to be one of their best in a long time.

Here’s everything you need to know from the reveal.

A space setting

This year’s COD will be set sometime in the not too distant future. A time where the human race has developed outposts in the solar system to colonise and farm resources from our neighbouring planets.

The Settlement Defence Force are the game’s bad guys. They’re a faction of brutal, fascist people whose goal is “to hold the countries of earth in a stranglehold”.

In the reveal trailer below, you’ll notice a few futuristic scenes like space warfare, controlling your own ship and fighting in a battalion and augmented hand to hand combat and technology. This suggests that the new COD may have some kind of traversing or combat augmentation system not unlike the exo-suit concepts of previous games in the franchise.

In what seems like a first for IW, the main campaign’s story will be linear, however, it will also feature non-linear side quests you can gain in-game rewards from. IGN reports through Infinity Wards design director Jacob Minkoff, “We are telling a linear story, but along the way you can choose to attack targets of opportunity, and attacking those targets of opportunity will reward you with various items and progression and loot elements that will help you to accomplish the next main mission that you accept from command”. He added that they “will also reveal optional elements of the story.”.

Infinity Ward’s first shot at a zombies mode

Although details were light on this during the live stream, Infinity Ward mentioned, “We’re excited that we’re finally able to do our own take on zombies”. They noted that the mode will be separated from the universe of Infinite Warfare, which will allow them to do unique things not tied to paradigms of the game. Infinity Ward have promised new gameplay features and mechanics that will probably be different to previous incarnations of the fan-favourite undead mode.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered

Probably the biggest news for jaded fans of the franchise, the much loved 2007 classic is getting a remaster! The reveal for the game came at the end of the Infinite Warfare trailer and features the original setting of the ‘Wet Works’ level. In a press release, Infinity Ward details what the remaster will cover.

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered boasts vibrant current generation visuals, with fully improved texture resolution and detail, high-dynamic range lighting, lit and shadowing VFX particles, revamped animation and audio, stunning sound and much more. Fans will relive the full, iconic campaign as they’re transported around the globe with Capt. Price, Gaz and Soap across all the missions from the original game, including “All Ghillied Up,” “Charlie Don’t Surf,” and “Crew Expendable.” Players will also experience the online multiplayer mode that redefined Call of Duty by introducing killstreaks, XP, Prestige and more, and battle head-to-head in 10 fan-favorite maps from the original multiplayer mode, including classics such as “Crash,” “Backlot” and “Crossfire.””

To get the game, you’ll have to buy the Legacy, Legacy Pro or Digital Deluxe editions of Infinite Warfare as the Modern Warfare remaster will not be a standalone release.
